For this project I decided to dip my toes into an unfamiliar genre of music and attempt to redesign the album artwork. In this instance I chose to do Dreamland, an album by Glass Animals that evoked the sense of summertime. Glass Animals' psychedelic sound allowed me to be very open with pursuing this design. I decided to pick color palettes that related to the overall sound of the album, as well as match the vibe of the summer. I wanted a bit of variety, hence the two similar, yet, different designs.
After working with an unfamiliar genre, I decided to go back to the music I love the most, 90s rap/hip-hop. For this redesign, I chose to do Mobb Deep's, The Infamous. The era of rap music in New York in the 90s is, in my opinion, unmatched. My vision for this was simple, take a scrapbook/collage approach and give it a vintage, worn feeling. The original cover features these same types of elements. In the original cover, there is a sign that uses the blue and orange colors minimally. I decided to incorporate those colors on a larger scale within the design. Another aspect that I chose to feature was the area of Queens that the artists grew up in. Where they came from is a heavy influence within their lyrics and music, therefore my reasoning to include those images.
